Some Galaxy Loth-Cats and Sketches. . .

It’s STAR WARS DAY, people!!! And this gave me a shove — done plenty of art, why not SHARE IT for STAR WARS DAY??? So here y’all are, some arts!!!

I’ve gotten back into the digital arts lately! I saw some (mostly) cute loth-cat stickers on Etsy, and I thought I could try it myself. The result was that I got a new art program (GIMP is so awful compared to Krita!!!) and did a TON of loth-cats!

Here’s the first five, my favorites! As you can see, they’re all the same pose; that’s something I learned from my My Little Pony days as being called a base. Bases mean you can easily make multiple variations of the same pose! In any case, here’s the last five. . .

Cute little stinkers, ain’t they?

Also, I did my two color chibis. . . which I introduced here. . .

Sabine will always be my favorite little mango, no matter what.

There’s a few more lothies!

Also. . . I’ve been saying for a while that I’d be posting some Jacen Syndulla art. Oki, I suppose I’d better do that at some point. . . maybe now?

And here’s some more. . .

I promise, that’s only a fraction of it. I haven’t yet uploaded most of it to the desktop yet. . . I’ll update the post when I do though! (And yes, those are fireflies. I love my Owl City, okay?) And finally, here’s some random sketches and stuff. Just cuz.

Thankies for stickin’ with me in my inactivity, y’all! I’ll have some more Jacen and some cosplay updates up pretty soon, but for now, I’m gonna spend Star Wars day touching up on some projects and hangin’ out with my fam! May the force (fourth too!) be with you all! BUT WATCH OUT FOR REVENGE OF THE FIFTH

Star Wars fanart by Kitten. No stealing; ask before reposting! I don’t own Star Wars (or this would be an official schools-out holiday!!! ;P)

All your Lothies are so pretty! I love the whole page of them, it’s like a big Loth-cat army! XD Your little Jays I think are cuter than the animated Jacen, (He is cute, but I still think he looks a little too much like a Sid the Science kid character in the finale.) 😆 Happy (Super Late! -Sorry) Star Wars Days! 😄

Oiiiii. . . LOTH-CAT ARMY. . . hehe, that would have been REALLY REAALLYYYYYY CUTE!!!! Like when he brings all the wolves out on those troopers. . . heh, why not bring a pack of loth-cat too?!?! XD That’s a super cute (and dangerous too — remember the one who nearly scratched up Ezra? ;3) mental picture X3
Thankiesssss! OIMEGOODNESSSSSS THAT’S SO RIGHT!!! I hadn’t thought of that but you saying it now — yeah, he does XP Poor Jay. . . And a very happy Star Wars day to you as well!

Ahhh, those Loth-cats are beautiful!!! I love the first three the most, those colors are gorgeous!!! 😀

And ah! Your Jacen sketches are so cute!!! I love ’em!! ❤ 🙂

AND your Sabine chibi!! I like the variance on your typical style; very cool!! The girl with the Mando helmet is amazing, too!! And… is that R2 and BB-8 with a mini-BB?! Adorable!! XD

Thankiessss! I love those three X3 Hehe one of the first things I liked about him was that fluffy green hair. . . it’s so fun to draw! Oh, yes, the mando girl!!! That is Jada Kantir, my oldest and dearest OC. I did a brief post on her before, but she’s constantly changing and I’d probably need to update that XD Yup, that’s them! At the time it was R2, BB and another BB unit, but they look so similar that when I saw TLJ blooper reel and saw the scene where BB and mini BB met Rose and Finn I decided that they’d be those two ;3 Droidy friends!

Aw, so cute!! 😀 (lol, I loved that bit from the blooper reel, Kelly Marie Tran’s reaction to “baby BB” was so adorable!! XD)

Hey, just curious, but would you ever be interested in designing some button pins for TEP? I’d like to get some printed up sometime, but you know how I am with with trying to draw such things myself… XP XD

Hehe, that blooper reel was one of the better ones I’ve seen (most of it anywho. . .) and that was definitely a highlight X3 Precious bby BB. . .
Sure! So whatcha thinking on it — like the face, or maybe like the initials or what? (And ughm. . . . button pins as in the little circle ones with the safety-pin-closure-thing, right? Or am I mixing things up ;3)

Lol, and Carrie Fisher slapping Oscar Isaac 30-some times… I think she was enjoying that scene a *tad bit* too much… XD

The initials could be great, if you could do that!
One thing I did that that would be adorable, if you had to time to sketch it out, would be a tooka doll dressed as a hobbit. Like, wearing a cloak, maybe with the curly hair everywhere. Don’t know if you could even do hair on a tooka and make it look right, but I think that could be the most adorable thing ever. XD
(And yes, you’re right! Some people call them “buttons” and some people call them “pins”; I tend to say buttons, just because when I think of pins, I think of the enamel ones like Squadron Goals has [I was able to grab the Ahsoka one while their sale was on, btw!! I wanted the Hera one the most, but by the time my dad got home and I remembered to ask him to help me with it, they were sold out for the day. It was a hard choice between Sabine, Rey, and Ahsoka, but I finally decided on Snips cuz’ I don’t have much to represent her yet. But I’m totally going back to get the Hera one as soon as I get the funds built up!! I know it’s probably hopeless at this point, but I’ve still got my fingers crossed that she’ll bring back the Jyn one someday….])

There’s some times I’d really like to slap Poe too. . . but screens are delicate objects. . . ;D

I’m terrible with letters XD but I shall try!
OI YUS I WILL DO THAT!!! I’ve been sketching plush tookas lately so that’d be funnnn!!! And hehe, yeah, it’s weird in concept but it’s something I like doing! Like the rebels version of loth-cats — sometimes I give Sabine and Ezra fluffy hair :3 it’s kinda off-kilter but super cute!!! Also, been getting better at drawing hobbitses toos!
(Yeys! And yeah, that’s what I usually think too! Oi, lucky yous. . . I missed out on getting my Bean pin *sigh* but hopefully at some point I’ll try for it! 😀 Hehe, I’ve been keeping an eye out for that one — I’ll let ya know if I ever see it!!!)

Hey, so I drew up the design and am coloring it via Krita (so much better ;3) and the normal purple tooka color is NOT working with the hobbit colors AT ALL. Should I do like a flesh-color one with colored markings, or find a coordinating color and work from there?

      • Shay · May 8, 2018

Honestly, I think you can do it whatever color you want! I know hobbits wear lots of yellow and green, and their cloaks were either green or grey, depending on what environment they were in… I guess you could try blue as well… And in-canon (for SW), I believe they can be different colors, so I think it would still be recognizable whatever color you made it! 😀
I bet you could also try a sandy brown color for the tooka itself, too, as that’s about the color of some of the hobbits’ hair, and then it would also look like a loth-cat-style tooka (since both cats are actually from the same animal family).

Eeep, I have something so cool to tell you about!

So you know that I went to a small local con Saturday to have a table and get the word out about The Elven Padawan, right??
Well, when I got there and got everything all set up, I was in for a surprise! Zoe, from the Star Wars Geek Girl podcast, and the same one who invited me on for that discussion with Vanessa Marshall a few weeks back, had come to it as well!! In fact, her entire family turned up and stuck around all day to hang out and support TEP! It was so sweet of them, and getting to meet another huge Rebels fan (and a Sabine cosplayer, no less!) in real life was so much fun!
But that brings me to the thing I knew you’d be the most excited about! I’ve been made an “honorary Sabine” for their podcast, since they did an episode not long ago with a bunch of Sabine cosplayers plus me. So at the con, they gave me a gift to make me a not-“honorary Sabine” anymore, and guess what it was?! It was some armor for my very own, plus a set of ‘Bean-style Westar blasters!! It’s not painted or anything yet, so I’ll have to decide which version of her outfit I want to do (though the armor is just the pieces for season 1, minus the foot pieces and I think the shoulder pauldrons.) And I’ll have to find my own helmet. But it’s so cool!! I can’t wait to start working on all the pieces, getting them fitted to my body and painting them! I know I’ll have to do some figuring out on how to make it acceptable for my family’s rules on clothing, but my dad said to go for it and see what I can come up with, so I’m gonna try! 😀 😀

Anyway, this all means I’ll probably be pestering you for some info on how to do the other parts I’ll need to make in the near future, so congratulations! 😛 XD

Yus yus yus I was meaning to ask how that went for you and it sounds like it went GREAT!!! Aiiii, that is like the coolest thing ever!!! OI. ME. GOODNESS. WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF THE MANDALORIANS, MY FRIEND!!! That — ai, that if someone. . . oimegoodness that’s just WOW and I’m so happy for you!!! That was SUCH A SWEET IDEA she had!!! AND BLASTERS TOO AKKKKK — I still needing my own blasties. . .
Lol, lucky me. . . I’m totally kidding, I’d be perfectly happy to help ya out with anythin’ ya need!!! I’m not able to do videos, but if you want to know anything about the forming, weathering, any of that, I’ve been meaning to post some mando armor tutorials for a while now, so I could do that for you any time! (But since it’s been rain, rain, rain lately, it’s not likely any painting things will get done ;D Humidity is a kind of a “big deal” for spray paint!)
Oi, but if you wanted. . . there’s a whole lotta customizations ya could do. . . at the moment I’ve been thinking about a samurai-type kit, like a Nya-Sabine crossover sketch I did once. . . ;D
Helmets are gonna be a really really REALLY expensive part (my helmet was fully twice the cost of the rest of the armor, but it’s so pretty I don’t really mind X3), so make sure you’re getting a good one there. Aihai, now you’re making me want to start up another mando, and I just finished Sabine! XD

Yes!! I’m so excited to get started on the blasters especially!! 😀
Oh yes, that would be fantastic! I know that I’ll have to heat the pieces with a heat gun (which my dad actually has!) and mold them to my body, but that’s pretty much all I have down. I especially need to figure out how I should make the shoulder pieces, which are some of the few parts I don’t have. So yeah, those tutorials would be an amazing help, if you’re planning to do them! 😀
I’m actually kinda thinking about *maybe* doing the Epilogue look for my armor, and adding a cape to it. Because even though we didn’t actually see her wearing a cape on-screen, I feel like she probably wore one at some point during her search for Ezra with Ahsoka.
Yep, that’s what people have said about the helmets… I have no clue where I’ll end up ordering one from whenever that time comes, but I feel like I should start saving up now…

I’ve no experience with blasters beyond my little wooden one, so I can’t really help ya much there. . . besides painting, of course!

Lol, I only just got a heat gun to do the visor and goodness, it’s so much better than a hair dryer. . . make sure you DON’T LET IT GET VERY CLOSE to the plastic or IT WILL BURN and also KEEP IT MOVING — and burnt sintra can be pretty nasty stuff! Shoulders. . . I used a 4″ PVC elbow joint, and my dad cut it out for me with a dremel. There’s not really any tutorials or stencils I’ve seen on that, but as long as you’ve got references (and a steadier hand than mine ;D) it shouldn’t be hard to just sketch on the lines. It’ll need some serious sanding for that though. . . Yeah, just let me know what ya need and I’ll see about fixing one up! There are some good tutorials out there on the shaping stuff, if you wanna check those out, b’cuz I’m obviously doing something wrong with me own technique (they’re not. . . even. . . to say the least. . .)

DOOOOO ITTTT THAT’D BE EPICCCCCC — only that’d mean probably cutting down some pieces and adding others. . . which isn’t hard, just time consuming! I really wanna do that one too (but my S4 Bean is totally getting left alone X3) cuz of the PAINT JOB MY GOODNESS it’s SO technical and is gonna take a good amount of brush painting as well as spray painting!!! And the cape *heart* capes are so awesome (but I can’t help thinking of The Incredibles XD). . . a nice beige or dark tan would be suitable, methinks, or were ya thinking mebbe something darker?

Yup. . . girl, you’re gonna have a grand time with a Mandalorian helmet. It changes all the painting and stenciling rules XD Hehe, and yesssss, save up — the lowest I’ve seen starts at $65, but it doesn’t come with a rangefinder or visor. . . and it’s untrimmed. Working on a helmet comparison post at the moment, mebbe that could help ya!

Sounds great! I know my dad has a sander, too (I’m not sure exactly what it’s called, but it’s one of the ones that spin to sand things…) so I’ll have to see if he’ll let me use that for any of these pieces.
I think the biggest thing I’m wondering about now to the undershirt/bodyglove and pants… I know some people make their own, some people get the help of a seamstress or order one pre-made… I’m pretty good on my sewing machine, so I’d like to try making the shirt myself, but I have no clue which pattern to use, or which fabric I should get. And painting! I don’t know much about that. No clue on which types of paint to use, or how if sealer should be added on top, or how I should go about stenciling on these designs. I’ve been reading some on the Rogue Rebels blog about how they did their Sabine, and they had some pretty good weathering techniques they used. But yeah, definitely the shoulders are the parts I’m most worried about, and how to attach everything to the shirt/pants and keep it snug on my body and not bouncing around everywhere.

The biggest trick for me is gonna be the hair. Especially if I end up going for Epilogue Sabine! I’ll obviously have to get a wig, but my hair is so long and pretty thick that I have no clue how I’m gonna fit it all underneath a wig that short and keep it from looking ridiculous. The painting I think will be fun, as long as I can figure out the stenciling and such… I enjoy doing all those little details on these things, and then it all coming together in the end and looking magnificent. 😀
If I do go for this design with a cap over it, I’m thinking either tan, or maybe dark purple, close to the color of her hair, perhaps? We’ll have to see. There’s a picture of her in s1 design wearing a cape on the Rogue Rebels blog that I found the other night, and it’s exactly the way I pictured what I’m imagining in my head!! So I think I might do that, just for the fun of it. I think most of the cosplay groups wouldn’t mind a slight variation like that, if I try to join…

Oh yeah, that sounds great! I honestly have no clue about how to go about any of this stuff, though I was planning on doing some snooping around on the Mando Mercs site as soon as I have some free time, I know they have quite a few tutorials and such on there. I guess I’m just feeling a bit overwhelmed by the whole project. I’m so touched and thrilled that they gave me the armor, and so excited to get to work on it, don’t get me wrong! But since it was something I was never expecting to cosplay myself, I never did the research about how to put the outfit together, so I have no clue where even to begin.

Ooooo, with that and a few pieces of normal paper, you should be completely fine for the sanding bit!
Ai, yeah, that’s the hardest part, imo. . . If you want to spend around $100 there’s a shop on Etsy that does MTO outfits. . . I’d call her pretty qualified, she was the very first Sabine in the Mercs XD I made my own from cheap jersey from walmart (gotta love it!), with Simplicity patterns (tunic and leggings, which I cut a size up to allow for any seam errors. . . which didn’t end up to be necessary since the whole thing was too big *shrug* There’ll always be *something* that won’t want to play nice ;D)
Any spray paint is good. Mostly I ended up using Krylon (lots of colors, not expensive, and makes for a good base) and touches of Rustoleum and Valspar (I HATED THE VALSPAR THOUGH — it felt like rubber and it peeled nastily :T).
The shoulders aren’t really that hard, they honestly are just big and clunky. If I could do my own art on them, it’d be easy. But since it’s Sab’s armor. . . say, that purgil is gonna be fun. . . :3 I really wanna just like grab a few feet of sintra now and try again, but my budget doesn’t want Sabine anymore XP
Oi, hehe, sagging is an issue, since jersey is so stretchy. . . so what ya do is this: get a fair sized piece of cotton fabric (or anything that doesn’t stretch) and glue, not sew, it to the inside of the shoulders, chest, and partway down the arm. Stitches would just let it sag, but the glue holds it in place. Then glue down the velcro (or whatever you want to use for fastening), do a few seams through both the jersey and the cotton, and there! Non-stretch flight suit X3 Works like a charm!
Well I can’t really help much with the wig. . . I didn’t have time to get one for the event, so I just pulled my hair back into a bun and my mom cut some little bangs like Sabine’s into the front. Maybe braiding it really tightly or something like that? I’m not sure. . . please, Sabine, you were reasonable at one point — why’d you have to go and get an Ezra cut???
Oi, with the little details and stenciling — work backwards. Paint the color that’s on the plate LEAST first, and then go from there. That way, there’s much less annoying taping and masking!
Honestly I can’t see anything but the tan with her current colors (I’ll have to draw it and maybe that’ll help) but I did see an S1 version art that had a magenta cape, it looked cute! Oh, yeah, you can probably do a cape for Verd’ika status (under 18 Mercs), but I don’t know about Rebel Legion’s version.
Oki, I’ll scratch around and find a piece of sintra and see about doing some tutorials! And yes, do check those out, they’re really helpful and there’s even a few Epilogue Sabines! I get ya, Mandos are definitely a harder cosplay (and a really different one too XD), but the result is GOING TO BE FABULOUS, no matter how you do it, and I promise, you’ll have a ton of fun explaining to movie fans who Sabine is and how she isn’t related to Jango or Boba at all XD Okay, so you have the basic armor, right? Go ahead and start sanding that whenever you want to officially “start” the physical cosplay. It helps to have the basic armor pieces ready when you do the flight suit, that way ya can try em right on (masking tape is very useful for trial fittings). It’s so satisfying, too, having the iconic armor in your hands. . . 🙂 It’s the joy of cosplay; I think, seeing something previously only an animated character that becomes something you can hold and wear (and put a cat in — Angel loves riding in a helmet X3). . . it’s well worth the trouble. And please, I know I ramble A LOT, so if I skip over something, do please point it out!

Hey, if you could write up a tutorial-post-thingy with the types of materials you used for all the parts, and whenever you used patterns or templates or whatever, which ones they were and where you got them from, that would be super helpful!! (If you still have/can remember all that info, that is.) Spray paint brands and colors, sewing pattern numbers, etc. My biggest problem is that I don’t hardly even know where to start! The armor I have was made out of PVC, I believe they said, which they ordered from Amazon (it was a sheet of it, not the pipes like from the hardware store.) And they did mention something about making the shoulder pieces from the shoulder-type pipe pieces. I’m thinking I might have to make another chest piece, though, because I’m not sure the one I have will work so well with my bust size, to put it rather bluntly. 😐 I know some people have 3D printed the chest plates to get the curves right, and some have just made it out of PVC/sintra (I actually have no clue what the difference between the two is…) and curve it themselves with the heat gun and such. I’m just super lost with a lot of it. I was doing some reading on the Mercs forum earlier today, and that was helpful. I’m thinking it might be really helpful to make a profile on there and start a WIP thread, so I can ask for tips from the experienced guys on there whenever I get stuck or can’t figure things out.

So what should I start sanding? I’m not sure how much they’ve already done on this, and how much I need to do myself… I know all the pieces have a coat of silver paint on them already, and look pretty smooth right now. I know the blasters need a little cleaning up, the edges are a bit jagged in some places, but I can clean that up with one of my dad’s files in no time. I just don’t wanna get carried away and end up sanding so much that there’s nothing left! Which might seem impossible, but in my house and around people who know me, I’m known for getting pretty gung-ho about stuff whenever I put my mind to it…

Oki doki loki, I certainly can do that! Well, as soon as I manage to rescue my paints from their garage-prison. . . XD
PVC armor. . . huh! I haven’t heard of that. . . it should act like Sintra then; perhaps a little more heat would be needed to be formed. . . wait, so they’re already silver — painted, or is that the base? If it’s paint and you want to reform it you might want to sand off the paint, it will likely crack, chip or burn with forming. But that’s theoretical. . . (to quote Quarrie ;D)
Now some people will do a dart in the chest plates and smooth it out with bondo or apoxie scuplt. I didn’t really want to go through that, though, because it’s really time consuming and can go wrong FAST. . . but usually the heat forming will work. (Hehe, neither do I. It might be the same thing XP)
Question: are the pieces flat, or formed? And painted or no?
Hehe, that’d probably help ya a lot; a lot of those guys are professionals (and others have been on TV. . . okay it was Star Wars night and they were on the baseball field BUT STILL THEY WERE ON TV AND I WAS VERY HAPPY TO SEE THEM).
Really, where you start depends on the state of the armor at the moment, and whether you want to start the armor or the blasters first :3 I’d go ahead and do the armor — it just feels like *that much* more done; more satisfying imho. But it sounds like the blasters need sanding most, so if you don’t mind getting a little dusty, perhaps it’d be fun to go ahead and get them cleaned up. Just eyeball it — but don’t overdo it! If it looks done, it probably is. A few rough patches and stuff can be cured with a ridge-filling primer (something I haven’t worked with, but have heard good things about). LOL, yasssss, that’s me and toothpaste weathering XD There’s just SO MUCH FUN in wiping toothpaste onto it and knowing how COOL it looks when it’s done. . . that’s why my Sab kit isn’t very accurate in detailings XP
I feel kinda ridiculous for saying this, but you don’t *have* to start it just right now. My planning stage was like around four months or something, so it’s not like you have to go ahead and dive in yet. Make sure you know what you want, and are comfortable with the techniques involved, before you start. It’s not procrastinating, it’s being cautious. *shrug*
(And maybe I’ll find a time to get that Sabine one 😀 They’re all so PRETTYSSS!!!)

Well, I just did a bit of checking, and apparently “Sintra” is actually the correct name for this PVC stuff. So there’s the answer to that question! XD
I believe the silver is the first coat of primer paint… and yes, I was thinking the same thing about that. I think they’re something like “partially formed…” Most of the pieces, like the “knee pads,” “elbow pads,” and such, fit just fine on me. It’s really just the chestplate that I’m going to have to do some work on. I did read that you have to put a dart in it if you need major curves for the chestplate… I’m going to try to avoid doing that if at all possible, but I feel like I might end up having to try it in the end…
And YES, I do think I’m going to make that thread as soon as I can get my dad’s help/permission to sign in to the forum.

Because of the crazy weather in the area we live, and the fact that I’m currently on summer break, I’d really like to start the armor now and, *if at all possible* have it done before school starts back, along with any other major pieces that will have to be finished. I was basically planning on this summer being my time to get caught up on the major parts of a bunch of cosplays I’ve planned but haven’t started yet. Because of the homeschool program I’m in, just keeping up with the blog and podcast during the school year is challenging enough, and I don’t have hardly any time to devote to big things like sewing dresses, building major props, or forging armor. 😛 So I’m sure I could get the blasters and other bits done during the school year if it ended up stretching out that long, and probably work by increments on the helmet, too, but I’d like to have the major parts and those that need to be done all at once done by then. And tbh, this one probably will be done by pieces and take a while, because I’m also hoping to start on my TLJ Rey, Tauriel (from The Hobbit), and that loth-wolf dress I’m planning as well this summer.
In all realistically, all these things probably WON’T happen this summer, but hey, at least I’m shooting high! XP

I am curious about how much sanding has to be done on the blasters, though… Are the little grid-like ridges left by the 3D printer supposed to stay on, or should they all be gone by the time I’m done sanding?

And also, is there any place to find template/measurement for how to armor should be, just in case I do end up redoing the chest piece?
(*whispering* and where IS the best place to get sintra from?)

        Well that’s helpful!!!
Oki, oki, that helps. . . oki, so those probably are ready for paint then! Depending on the season you want, you can just jump in! (Evaar’la Kal has the template and tutorial for that tricky starbird pattern on the chest plate here. . . http://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=153607.0 )
Meep, I get ya there! I feel like I probably have more free time than some people, and so am able to devote more time to my hobbies, but school is a pest when it comes to fangirling, ain’t it? ;D
Nah, keep a schedule, a steady head, and a good amount of time per day in it and hey, maybe they’ll all come together! Oooo, Tauriel! That’ll be really pretty! What way are ya gonna go for the fabric? It looked kinda silky in the movie. . .
And uh, I sound pretty ridiculous, but I maybe kinda forgot about summer break and that I can do cosplay during it. . . :T Wow.
Oh gracious they’re 3D printed. . . um, hehe, no. . . those don’t really come off. Acetone, some kind chemical of smoother, or bondo will have to go on top to smooth it out. I tried really hard on my paint gun, but all I got was a wooden-like finish that a metal spray painter SHOULD NOT HAVE. . . :T
Yup — Eitanya has ’em! She was the first Sabine accepted into the Mercs (and also is my favorite Sabine XP), and she did the templates I used. I’m including them in the reference post (which I’m working on), but here’s the link. . .

        https://eitanya.deviantart.com/art/Downloadable-Sabine-armor-templates-483881333

Nope! Not at all! Them things take a TON of tape anywho. . . but yeah, it should work fine just over a layer of clothing. I didn’t use a heat gun when I formed mine, but the stuff never got really hot to the touch. I do know that you should wear something really close to whatever you end up going for with the flight suit. A lot of the MM say that it helps to go ahead and have the flight suit done so you can form it to the materials, and I think that’d be helpful. But no, it probably won’t burn you as long as you have a thicker fabric to mold it over, and it’d help to wear gloves!

Oh hehe and Amazon is the best, I’ve heard. Unless you have a sign shop nearby and maybe they’ll even GIVE you some scrap pieces! Which. . . is really nice. . . 😀

So. I’m officially a member of the Mercs (on their forum, lol! :P), and I’ve started my WIP thread!
On top of that, I’ve also started doing a bunch of research on all the other pieces I need to make. I STILL haven’t been able to decide which style of armor I’m wanting to do, though… I keep going back and forth between my “Future Sabine” concept, and the s4 look. If I did s4, I can have a legit excuse for making/getting all the cool props, like the Darksaber, jetpack, even Ezra’s saber…
I’ve also found some fabric that I think would look fantastic for the top part of the outfit. I’m thinking I’m gonna do what a lot of the Mercs’ Sabines seem to do, and make the shirt as a leggless leotard instead of an actually, well, shirt. That way it won’t ride up or any of that nonsense once the armor is attached and the belts are on. 😀
I’m hoping to order a bit more Sintra sometime soon, so I can cut out the additional pieces that I need, get them sanded up, and paint everything at once.

And on top of all that, I’m trying to figure out what I should start looking for for my TLJ Rey, and that Lothwolf dress, as well as a Naare outfit I’m planning to do, eventually. My sis and I have been talking about doing one together as Naare and Kordi Freemaker, and if by some miraculous happening we DO end up making it to Celebration 2019, we wanna try wearing that one of the days. 😀 So I’m basically trying to get together a list of all the projects I’m currently working on or planning to start soon, so I can get all the parts I need for them at once or at least start working my way through the list. Some friends and I are planning a “cosplay bash” thing where we’re gonna get together on a day this summer and work on all our projects together. Nothing fancy, but hopefully we’ll be able to help each other of the tough spots and get a significant amount of work done on each of our things. 😀

Yey for you!!! Hehe I is now keepin’ a eye on that — XP Jist so ye knows ;P You’re in good hands there! Oi yeah, S4 is the best (and I’m not biased, no, not at all. . . ;D)!!! Say, there’s actually a pretty good-looking jump-pack cast on Etsy right now! The only thing with it is that it’s specifically modeled for adults. . . lol, so I figure I’m probably about Sabine’s height, and the makers of the jump-pack made it 10% bigger than the screen version so it’d fit tall people :T But a PVC one wouldn’t be that hard, now would it? Oi, if you get access to a 3D printer (my library has one), printing your own darksaber (and StapleGun2.0 X’D) might be cheaper than buying! But Epilogue Sabi. . . she’s so pretty. . . 😀 I love all her looks, but I really would want to see her S2 hair with her Epilogue kit. That’d be epic — and possible, what with cosplay XD AK, that’s SO MUCH BETTER AN IDEA. . . lol, my shirt is like a foot too long, maybe it can get modified. . . *shrug* But really, that’s ingenious! And it could help keep the armor still too, depending on the tightness. Yeah, now I really wanna do that XD Yey for sintra!

OIMEGOODNESS NAARE?!?!?! I have NEVER seen a Freemakers cosplay — and this sounds bad, but she is like my favorite villain EVER next to Kylo. Naare and Kordi cosplays would be like the epicest (yes that’s a word now ;D) thing ever. Plus she has “normal” hair!!! Ooooo, the Mercs do things called an armor party where they all get together and do the forming and stuff with the armor — like that, kinda? That sounds EPIC!!!

They’ve all been super helpful in answering my questions and giving me tips so far!! I’m really glad I decided to go over there for help, as I really have no clue what I’m doing. XP
There’s this one Darksaber prop that I’ve been eyeballing for a little while, I believe there’s only a couple of them left, but it’s only around $20, which seems pretty good to me considering what a lot of props like that are listed as. It’s not got the blade or anything, of course; just the straight-up hilt.
The biggest problem is that I’m so stinkin’ indecisive!!! I will get to a point where I think I’ve decided on which phase I should go with for the armor, and then I’ll suddenly change my mind and start thinking I should do another one, or that I should just go with my original idea for it. Arrg, why does she have to have so many different cool looks going on in ONE SHOW?!
I know, whoever thought of that idea really was a genius!! And yes, holding the armor tighter is another reason I wanna make mine as a leotard, too. I just can’t figure out which pattern to use… there’s this free one on the Mood Fabrics blog that I was thinking about do at first, but then I saw how everyone was saying that they used the Yaya Han cosplay bodysuit pattern for theirs, so I thought I would use that one instead. But then someone on the Mercs tried out the Mood pattern and gave it a pretty good review, so now I’m thinking about going back to that one… Once again, I am an indecisive fangirl, and those don’t work so well together. 😐

YESSSS Naare is the best!!! I love that she’s a girl Sith (or something similar to an Inquisitor, at least), but has such a different personality and place in the story from, say, Asajj Ventress. And YESS AGAIN for NORMAL HAIR!!! XD I could actually use my real hair for that cosplay, though I’d probably use a wash-in dye to make it a few shades darker than it is naturally. Of course, it might be kinda odd to do Naare and Kordi since we’re sisters and they kind, ya know, hate each other? Lol! XD But I think it would be a pretty unique cosplay that not a ton of other people will do. I’ve heard about a couple of Freemaker cosplays at the last Celebration, but I have yet to be able to track down actual pictures of them.

And yep, that’s pretty much what we’re doing! We’re not quite sure when we’re gonna actually get together, but hopefully within the month we can do it. 😀

Okay so first off I’m SO SORRY ABOUT THE LATE REPLY — somehow it got stuck in the spam folder :T Probably went over my head since I’ve been totally bushed from having camp all this week. But anyway. . . yeah XD
I believe I may know the one you’re talking about. . . is it on Etsy? There’s a few good hilts off there for under $30. I don’t know where you can get an inexpensive blade; they’re all like $150 or something crazy. I’m probably just gonna get the hilt if I get one cuz technically S4 paint-job Sab doesn’t have the Darksaber. . .
*laughs* Welcome to my world, girl. There’s way too many choices out there XD I KNOW RIGHT?!?!?! Good grief, I mean really Sabine, you don’t have to COMPLETELY REDO the whole thing XP But it’s variety, and we love variety, don’t we? XD
Well, how bout trying printing out both the patterns and seeing which one looks like it could work better? I know when I was looking for penguin patterns to transform into porgs, it really helped to print a few patterns and lay them out side-by-side to see what would really work. It also helps with darts, so you can go ahead and stick em together and see how that looks.
Naare is epic. She really is. I really liked how two-faced (literally XD) they made her, how easy she was to trust, but then so *mean* when she got mad! And then the sith-y tantrums — can’t have a sith without tantrums XP (I know that’s general and not all sith do it but still)
Seriously tho, they need to do more human females with normal hair in the animating portion. We gots Rey and Jyn and Qi’ra and Val and kinda Maz I guess (bandanas aren’t that hard) that are easy, but then Ketsu and Hera and Sabine and Ahsoka and oh gracious who knows who else in Rebels that aren’t easy at all! Yeesh! But Freemakers was good about that. Lego tends to be. SPEAK OF LEGO — The Lego Movie 2 trailer is out!!!! Has you seen it??? I’m so excited XD
LOL, yeah. . . yeah, they never really got along XP That might not be a great sibling cosplay — but then again, it *could* become a lesson! Y’know, “these two hate each other but we don’t,” like that. That’d actually be fun to do. I wonder if my sibs would protest my cosplaying if I made them do it too. . . XD
Sounds like that’s gonna be a blast!!! Lucky people whose friends will cosplay too JK XP

Oh, it’s totally fine!! We’ve been crazy with VBS all last week, and then we’ve got camp coming up in a few more weeks, and between now and then a bunch of housework and projects… it’s gonna be a rest rest-of-the-summer…
Yep, it’s on Etsy. And yeah, I’m thinking I probably won’t get one with a blade, at least not for now… I’ve got so much money to save up to finish my current projects, and for Celebration… AHHHH DID I TELL YOU YET?!!! WE GOT TICKETS TO CELEBRATION!!! I’m soooo excited!! 😀 😀 😀 It’s just gonna be me, my dad, and the sister closest to me in age, and we’re going all the days except Thursday. But now I’ve gotta pretty much put Sabine and all the other projects on hold for a bit. I’m gotta make a bunch of money so I can pay off my ticket debts and get some extra to take with me. But I also really wanna try to finish at least Sabine and probably my Loth-wolf dress, too, so I can wear them there. It’s gonna be so great!! 😀 😀

Oooh, so have you seen Solo yet?? What did you think, if so?? (And quick note: I loved Val!! I know she was a lot more minor of a character, but she kinda reminded me of a more scoundrely version of Hera somehow…)

And YES!! I saw that trailer!! I can’t wait, it looks like it’s gonna be hilarious!! XD

We were hoping to be able to get the Freemaker cosplays put together to wear to Celebration, too, but now she’s trying to back out on me… She says that she doesn’t have the money to cover that AND all the stuff for Celebration itself, but I think it’s just an excuse because she doesn’t like to dress up in public. She likes the idea of it, but then she gets grumpy when she actually has to do it. But Kordi is not a hard cosplay at all, and honestly wouldn’t cost anything near what most cosplays do! So maybe I can still convince her to do it before next spring… 😉

Lol, I’ll be gone again in two weeks for overnight camp. . . yeah, what with all the stuff I mean to do (that probably won’t get done) and the camps and events, it’s unlikely I’ll be posting anything for the next few months. . . busy days, ay? XD
WHAAA OIMEGOODNESSSSS CONGRATSSSS!!!! Aiiii, that’s gonna be like the best time ever!!!! Hera and Sabine and Ezra and Kanan and Zeb and Mr. Cowboy Hat are usually there, not to mention Rey and Luke and 3P0 and a WHOLE LOTTA COSPLAYERS, right??? Meep!!! What you have of Sabine, if you don’t do the helmet, probably won’t be that expensive to finish — how epic would that be, to get to go to an ACTUAL SW CELEBRATION AS SABINEEEE. . . aiiii. . .
Nope, not yet, but I haven’t the slightest thing against spoilers by this point — already spoiled the Darth Maul presence bit for myself, cuz it’s unlikely we’ll see it until it comes out on DVD. What’d you think??? (I just know I’m gonna love her, though I haven’t seen much about her!)
Meep, I’m so excited!!! There were so many little things in it (like the pillow on the double decker front porch swing) that called back to the first one, and it was just so cool!!!
Lol, sounds a lot like my sibs XD Good luck turning her to the cosplay side!!!

Oh, and I do have another question that I meant to ask! When you go to form the armor, do you have to make one of those duct-tape mannequins of yourself, or do you mold it directly to your body? Do you have to wear special clothes to keep it from sticking or burning you or anything like that?

HAPPY STAR WARS DAY (except oops, I’m a day late, as usual, but better late than never! 🙂 )

Aw, those are cute Loth-cats! My favorite is the first one–absolutely gorgeous!

Ooh, nice coloring! Sabine is cute as a chibi, but you’ve captured her spirit as well!

D’awww, Loth-cats are so cute. I need to try my hand at drawing more of them…

And those sketches of Jacen are cute too! Is that him hanging out with his big sister Bean on the far right? 🙂 My favorite drawings of Jacen are the final two–excellent work!

Well not really — today’s the Revenge of the Fifth! And I forget what tomorrow is. . . it’s got a name, I know it. . .
The first one is my favorite too!!! They really are, they really are. . . I love my Sabine, but Loth-cats are seriously considered a character in my book and they’re threatening to rebel against their second-place position :3
Yup yup yup! That’s probably on of my favorites of my recent sketches, even though Sabine’s arms are kinda weird (it’s the anime-ish style XP I’m trying new styles and that one is rather close to what I already do, but the fingers are more defined and the EYES ARE WAY DIFFERENT XD). But I can totally see him adoring her — and besides, she’s definitely in love with his hair ;3 Well thankies so much!!! I’m glad you liked them!
